Winston is a headstrong pig in need of a strong personality, and preferably a pig friend, to help him be the best piggy he can be. A sanctuary or experienced pig family is ideal. Despite being neutered, he has a strong territorial drive and continues to challenge humans. He is good with the mini goats he resides with, as well as the chickens and cats that visit their paddock.
Info from his prior foster: I pulled Winston from Voorhees Animal Orphanage on Aug 30. He’d been abandoned in-town and collected by animal control. Nothing was known of his background, he was obese, fat-blind and fat-deaf. I immediately put him on a diet. The first 3 weeks his behavior was ideal, but by the end of Sept as he settled in he began exhibiting snarky dominance-type behavior. It started as suddenly swinging and snapping while enjoying being petted, scratched or groomed. Initially, the “move the pig” exercises worked, but the behavior returned. Ben came out Nov 26 to trim tusks and hooves, clean his ears and check his eyes. He got a clean bill of health from Ben, but the behavior hasn’t abated. I keep working with Winston, I’ll think I’m making progress and then he backslides. But with every backslide his behavior intensifies. Unfortunately It seems as though the more settled in he gets, the more his dominance behaviors escalate. He’s become very possessive of the shed where he sleeps and we’ve had multiple encounters in and around it. Saturday he finally Did bite someone. I’m just not set up to maintain a pig with this dominant a personality. I’m hoping to find a sanctuary setting where he’ll have the space and proper social interaction he needs to be a happy pig. Being a sole pet pig isn’t the right fit for him.
