7/30/23 Still Available! The family said he's really enjoying his outside time and wants to stay out much longer. Unfortunately, he's not allowed to have as much outside time as he'd like due to a dog that doesn't like him and having to separate them. The family would consider having him be fully outside, but can't with the dog & current set up. 4/25/23 Update: Sushi is no longer practicing with his crate and now he is able to use his pads in our kitchen without the crate. He's been enjoying his first ever outside play times when I feel it’s warm enough as he gets cold very quickly.
Sushi is a lovely indoor-only piggy who doesn't get any outside time in his current home. He is crate trained and housebroken, using a litterbox. He must have his blanket down in the room he is in or he will pull the potty pad out of his crate (used for just going to the bathroom now that he's bigger). If the pad gets taken out of the crate, he will not go potty in it and will have accidents.
He's great with other animals and doesn't mind louder animals like birds. (Dogs and pigs should always be supervised and never left alone when together.) He is good with teens 14+. However, he can and will bite ankles when upset.
Sushi is very social. When he was smaller, he would climb into bed to sleep. He likes blankets and stuffed animals, and has his own stuffed pig. He loves pets and belly rubs, and will lay down on his back to get scratches in the places he can't reach. He can be iffy with men at first, but has never had issues with women. He'll adjust to men in the home after a short time. He's very talkative and is wagging his tail 24/7. He does not like being picked up at all: No exceptions. He can snip and scream if tried. He loves his bath time, but can be difficult to get to eat as he was fed only dog food from the previous owner. The previous family only had Sushi a short time and thought he was a female.
Here are a few video links of him taken 3/7/23: Video 1 and Video 2
Transportation is available within a 2 hour drive to the new home. All his belongings with his crate can go with him, if the new family would like them.
Sushi is not altered so arrangements must be made to neuter prior to adoption. Intact pigs do not make the best companion animals. Neutering prevents behavior issues and eliminates that classic boar odor. Altering piggies when they're young is safer and usually less expensive than waiting until it becomes a problem or a medical emergency.
If you are interested in adopting, please complete the application and mention the name, city, and state of the pig(s) you're interested in: https://www.pigplacementnetwork.org/online-adoption-application/
Qualified homes must 1) be in a zone friendly community, 2) locate a vet that will care for pet pigs, 3) own their home.
Donations to PPN are greatly appreciated so we can continue to help pigs.
