Squiggy in New Bloomfield is in need of a new home. Due to a health issue with a family member that now needs around the clock care, the family needed to move into a smaller apartment & sell their house with land.
Squiggy is currently living outside, but he was a housepiggy who loved his outside time & lots of space. He is gentle once he warms up to you, but can get moody if you go in his pen. Outside the pen he isn’t aggressive or territorial at all, but he does like to play rough.
We are told he was fine with kids years ago, but it has been quite some time since he's been around them. The only other animals he's been around are smaller ones like ferrets & hamsters, which he's fine with.
He apparently had a traumatic experience with other adult pigs, so the family is unsure if he'd do well with other pigs - piglets may be easier to introduce/bond him to. Edit: after hearing more about the experience, Squiggy was paired with some other alpha boys and they fought for dominance. If introduced to a more submissive pig or younger pig, it would probably be fine. Pairing with another dominant pig will result in some fighting to see who gets the Top Hog position. Tussling for dominance is how pig herds work. *-*Short & Curlies has given Squiggy a few opportunities to meet all sizes/ages/sexes of pigs through a fence. So far he has shown promise with females, but males are more of a struggle.
He also knows a bunch of tricks/commands: Sit, stand, sound, he will open his mouth when you tell him to, he understands the command run, if you ask him “what do you do?” when your feeding him, he will back up and sit down to wait for his food. He definitely knows what the words no and not yours means.
Here's what his dad says about him: Squiggy likes open areas. He will walk with me unleashed. He likes to run and play chase. He likes standing in a small pool but hates hoses. He was potty trained when younger but just got too big. He has a doggie door he uses. Squiggy likes to be around people and part of what is going on but on his terms. He is not cuddly and affectionate often. He just wants to be around. He will go for belly rubs when he wants one.
