Moose, Houdini, and Dr. Doofenshmirtz were rescued from auction about one year ago. They are in need of a home that is able to provide vet care and get them neutered. There is a female piggy present on the property, and they boys have started to go a little stir crazy being around her, but not able to get to her. The family doesn't have the means to get them neutered, so rehoming is the best option to keep every safe and happy.
All three boys are still getting used to people not being scary, but once they get more familiar, they are good with all ages. They have never shown aggression towards anyone that has been visiting, but are timid at first. Moose is a little older and bigger than the other two, who are brothers and were babies when rescued last year. His weight was estimated at maybe 90lbs as of 6/19/2024.
The family says: "Moose in particular LOVES dogs, and has become best friends with my shepherd mix. He can play in the yard with her for hours. The other two are still a bit skeptical around dogs, but their fear response has always been to hide, and never to be aggressive. It may take some extra time to introduce dogs to the two younger boys until they realize they aren’t in danger, but have been exposed to dogs in the past, and we’ve never had any problems. As for cats, there are some outdoor ones in the area, and we’ve come down sometimes to find them sleeping in the pig’s pen with them during colder months!" (Dogs and pigs should always be supervised and never left alone when together.)
"Moose is the biggest goofball! He is always doing silly things that make us laugh, and is the most outgoing of the three. He loves playing with the hose during warmer months, and will find a way to make a puddle to roll in any chance he gets. He loves his time outside the pen where he’ll do zoomies around the yard chasing after my dog. Houdini and Dr. Doofenshmirtz are definitely more docile, and follow whatever Moose is doing. They are so curious and love to explore new areas around the property. Funny story about Houdini- when we rescued him, we were carrying him out to our car in a cage and he somehow managed to break the front gate and squeeze his way out. From there he took off running and it took us (and the over 30 people helping to catch him) over 2 hours until we got him. He had gone through the produce market where he found his way to a local golf course and was so quick and dodgy that it took a whole army to get him. And that’s how he earned his name!!"
Transportation is available within 2 hours to the new home.
These boys are not altered so arrangements must be made to neuter prior to adoption. Intact pigs do not make the best companion animals. Neutering prevents behavior issues and eliminates that classic boar odor. Altering piggies when they're young is safer and usually less expensive than waiting until it becomes a problem or a medical emergency.
If you are interested in adopting, please complete the application and mention the name, city, and state of the pig(s) you're interested in: https://www.pigplacementnetwork.org/online-adoption-application/
Qualified homes must 1) be in a zone friendly community, 2) locate a vet that will care for pet pigs, 3) own their home.
Donations to PPN are greatly appreciated so we can continue to help pigs.
