James is a neutered male outdoor piggy in need of a new home. His mate passed and the family doesn't plan to have more pigs. They'd love to find him a new home with a pig friend to keep him company. He's grumpy in an endearing way. His affection is long fought for, so when it's given, it's very rewarding. While he's not cuddly, he will use his nose to kiss your hand. The 5- and 7-year-olds in the family will go out in the pen with James. He mostly ignores them, but he generally likes to be around people. He will sometimes let the adults pet him, but that took a lot of bonding time. He's slow to warm up to people.
James lives in a large pen with other animals including chickens, ducks, and sheep. Dogs and cats have free access to the pen without problems. (Dogs and pigs should always be supervised and never left alone when together.) The most he's ever done is head swiped over food and has never hurt anyone. He's very food motivated, so feeding separately from other animals is best. This will keep any food-related issues at bay, as well as keeping James from getting too pudgy over time if he sneaks some of his pen-mate's food! He has lived with another pig in the past and we'd love to find another home where he'll have a pig buddy again!
Transportation is not available, so the adopter will need to make arrangements.
If you are interested in adopting, please complete the application and mention the name, city, and state of the pig(s) you're interested in: https://www.pigplacementnetwork.org/online-adoption-application/
Qualified homes must 1) be in a zone friendly community, 2) locate a vet that will care for pet pigs, 3) own their home.
Donations to PPN are greatly appreciated so we can continue to help pigs.
